In 1999 some research projects on cancerology were developed within a complex private hospital, in the city of Cuiaba, the Santa Rosa Hospital. Some publications were made, giving incentives to the official formation of a research centre exclusively focused on the speciality. In march of 2000, Molecular Cancer Research Centre was created, transformed into a non profit Private Association in 2006. The institution holds a bank of biological material of an indigenous population that is unprecedented in the country due to having singular authorization of genetic studies authorized by the Brazilian Government.
